2024 MLB All-Star Game American League Ballot: Who Should Be Voted In?

Some decisions are easy when it comes to filling out the American League All-Star Game ballot. Not even the biggest Yankees hater can justify excluding Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. Other decisions are not such as at shortstop with two worthy, young stars in Baltimore’s Gunnar Henderson and Kansas City’s Bobby Witt Jr.That’s the beauty of the All-Star Game ballot, though. It’s meant to spark conversation and debate and snubs lists. It’s subjective, after all, in deciding who should play in the 2024 All-Star Game, which is scheduled for July 16 at Globe Life Field, home of the World Series champion Texas Rangers. Here’s our ballot for the American League (stats updated through Saturday, June 22):C: Adley Rutschman, OriolesKansas City’s Salvador Perez is in the conversation but Rutschman is the choice. The top overall pick in the 2019 draft is the AL’s top catcher in batting average (.303), home runs (14) and WAR (2.9).1B: Josh Naylor, GuardiansToronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is the incumbent and Baltimore’s Ryan Mountcastle is worthy of consideration. But we'll go with the position's best home run hitter to date: Naylor, who leads all first basemen with 19 home runs.2B: Marcus Semien, RangersThe lone starter from the host team gets a slight edge over Houston’s Jose Altuve. Semien has the highest WAR (2.9) ranking among AL second basemen and is the top defensive second baseman per FanGraphs.SS: Gunnar Henderson, OriolesThe reigning rookie of the year is putting together a terrific season with a .281 batting average, 24 home runs, 53 RBIs and a league-leading 65 runs scored. This will be the first of many All-Star selections.3B: Jose Ramirez, GuardiansRamirez is an easy choice based on how his numbers compare to fellow third basemen. He leads the position with 19 home runs and 67 RBIs, and should make his first All-Star start since 2018.OF: Aaron Judge, YankeesHe’s been referred to as the modern-day Babe Ruth, so it’s no surprise he’s the top vote-getter to date. With a MLB-leading 28 home runs and 70 RBIs, it’s just a matter of time before his starting status becomes official.OF: Juan Soto, YankeesAnother virtual lock for the starting lineup as he ranks among the top hitters in the game with a .305 average, 18 home runs and 56 RBIs.OF: Steven Kwan, GuardiansEven though he missed most of May with an injury, it’s hard to leave off Kwan, who is batting a leading-leading .390 with a 1.013 OPS. Plus, he’s an elite defender. His breakout season should be rewarded with an ASG start.DH: Yordan Alvarez, AstrosDH is actually up for grabs with Shohei Ohtani departing the league. Alvarez gets the nod this season as he’s putting together an impressive first half with a .292 average and 16 home runs.P: Seth Lugo, RoyalsEven though starting pitcher isn’t officially on the ballot, we’ll give the nod to Lugo. He’s played a part in helping turn the Royals around this season, and has numbers justify this honor (AL-leading 10 wins along with a 2.42 ERA and 12 quality starts).
