Giovinco set for Juve exit

(GSM) Juventus midfielder Sebastian Giovinco has revealed that he will leave the Turin club if he is benched for another season.

The 23-year-old has been regarded as one of the hottest young prospects in Serie A, but has struggled to make an impact in the Bianconeri ranks after returning from his loan spell at Empoli in the summer of 2008.

After spending another season on the sidelines as Juve struggled in the league, Giovinco now has his eyes on a move.

If the club do not want me, what would I be staying here for? he told Tuttosport.

After two seasons I won t be spending another year languishing on the bench, it wouldn t make any sense.

I don t even think I deserve the bench. Better yet, I m sure of it. I want to play consistently, that s th…

Manchester City arrived at the Etihad Stadium to heroes’ welcomes on Sunday following confirmation of their fifth Premier League title in six years.

City’s lead at the top of the table became insurmountable when closest challengers Arsenal were beaten at Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening.

That meant Sunday’s encounter with Chelsea became a celebratory occasion regardless of the result.

The Best? – Messi compared to Ronaldo, Salah and Modric after FIFA snub

Lionel Messi was surprisingly snubbed on Monday when the nominations for the Best FIFA Men s Player award were announced, and Opta data suggests he has been harshly ignored.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Mohamed Salah were revealed as the final three players up for the prize, leaving many wondering how Messi who inspired Barca to a LaLiga and Copa del Rey double  was left out.

Ronaldo and Modric arguably secured their nominations with Champions League success at Real Madrid last term, while the midfielder also helped Croatia to the World Cup final, earning himself the Golden Ball.

Meanwhile, Salah enjoyed a record-breaking season with Liverpool and was an integral figure as the Reds finished runners-up in Europe s elite competition.

So, how does Me…

Forget Mandzukic, it´s over – Dalic wants Croatia to move on

Zlatko Dalic has told Croatia to forget Mario Mandzukic as he works to uncover a replacement for the Juventus striker.

Mandzukic retired following his country s run to the World Cup final and Croatia have scored just one goal in three matches since, the latest of which was a 0-0 draw against England on Friday.

That result followed a 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Spain but coach Dalic is focusing on the future, rather than dwelling on the past.

It is not like us not to be able to score two matches in a row, he said. But we have to forget Mandzukic, it is over, he is not with us anymore.

He made his decision and we have to respect that and look for other solutions.

Croatia rode their luck at times in a match that was played behind closed doors a…

Bayer Leverkusen extend Bundesliga lead as goalkeeping error helps see off Mainz

Title-chasing Bayer Leverksusen had a helping hand from Mainz goalkeeper Robin Zentner as they stretched their Bundesliga lead to 11 points with a 2-1 win at the BayArena.

Granit Xhaka’s brilliant 20-yard strike gave Leverkusen the lead after just three minutes, but a well-worked headed equaliser from Dominik Kohr followed close behind to give the relegation strugglers hope.

Xabi Alonso’s side were spared any further anxiety when Robert Andrich tried his luck from range in the 68th minute and Zentner allowed a gentle effort to squirm through his gloves and over the line.

David De Gea says Manchester United are ready for one more ‘special’ battle

“The manager wants us to be focused every game, winning every game. Before the game he was shouting before ‘come on guys, we have to finish properly, winning mentality’.

“So, yeah, we showed it again. 1-0 down, suffering a bit, but then we create chances and could have scored even more than two.

“But, like I say, a big way to finish the season with a victory and (it) gives a bit of enjoyment to the fans.”

The result saw United equal the club’s record of 27 home wins in all competitions in a single campaign, while also meaning they finished 17 points better off than last season.

“100 per cent, for sure, the improvement is there,” De Gea told MUTV. “Of course we still have a gap to improve but, yeah, a massive improvement from last seaso…

“I have closed the chapter at Catania,” Lopez said in an interview with Argentine magazine Rock Pop.

“My spell here has ended here, but I will not return to Argentina, I will continue playing in Europe.”

Maxi Lopez began his career at River Plate and in 2005 earned a lucrative move to Barcelona.
