Tottenham defender Eric Dier has signed a new contract with the Premier League club that will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2020.
Dier moved to Tottenham from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon ahead of the 2013-14 campaign and made 28 league appearances in his maiden season.
The England Under-21 international endeared himself to the Spurs faithful from the off by scoring a last-minute winner in a 1-0 victory at West Ham on his Premier League debut.
Speaking about his new deal, Dier told the club s official website: I loved every minute of my first season and to now sign a new deal for another five years, I m happy and looking forward to the future.
I believe in myself and my quality but I didn t really know what to expect and I didn t think I d play that many games [in my first season].
I said at the time I d try my best and see where it took me, and it s taken me here. I was really happy with my first season but there is still a lot of work to do, I need to keep improving and I ll keep on giving my best.
There is a great core here of young players and even the likes of Christian [Eriksen], Erik [Lamela], Kyle [Walker] and Danny [Rose] are all still young.
We have a young team, a core of young English players and young players in general and there is such a great future for the club.
Dier has been an ever-present in Tottenham s four league games this term, scoring in the 2-2 draw against Stoke City last month.
He has proved a valuable player for Tottenham, featuring at centre-back and full-back for the majority of last term, while head coach Mauricio Pochettino has also used him in a defensive midfield role this season.
